Bathroom Remodel Shopping Guide: Best Brands for Every Budget + Free Download

Planning Your Bathroom Remodel? Here’s Where to Shop for Every Budget

If you’re gearing up for a bathroom remodel or refresh, you might be wondering, where should you shop for all the essential items—plumbing, mirrors, tile, and more? And how can you ensure they fit within your budget? Whether you’re aiming for a value-based renovation or a luxury upgrade, it’s important to know where to find quality products that suit your style and financial plan.

Best Places to Shop for Bathroom Remodels:

One of my top recommendations is Build.com, a go-to for plumbing, mirrors, vanities, and even tile. They offer a wide range of tile options from brands like Daltile and Emser, which are great for both budget and luxury designs. Build.com also features a variety of vendors, covering everything from affordable choices to high-end brands like Curry and Co and Brizo (Delta's luxury line).

For more specific tile needs, Tilebar.com remains my top pick. They have a wide range of prices and styles, plus excellent sorting features that let you filter by color, application, and price, making it easy to find the perfect tile for your space.

Budgeting for Your Bathroom Remodel:

When planning a remodel, a spreadsheet will become your best friend. I recommend using Google Sheets to track costs. You can create multiple tabs to compare different design options and price points. Just don’t forget to factor in tax and shipping, which can easily add 15-20% on top of your total.

Additionally, it’s smart to build in a contingency for unexpected costs. This could be anything from an unforeseen issue that your contractor uncovers to finding the perfect tile or vanity that’s outside your original budget. Giving yourself this wiggle room will be incredibly helpful—even though I personally don’t always do this, it’s something I recommend!

Tips & Tricks:

LIGHTING:

Bathroom Lighting: When selecting lighting fixtures for your bathroom, make sure they are damp-rated to handle the moisture and humidity in the space. Proper damp-rated lights will ensure safety, prevent damage, and provide long-lasting illumination.

Tip: Pay attention to the color temperature of your bulbs. For a soft, inviting atmosphere, opt for a warmer temperature (2700K-3000K). For a brighter, more energizing feel, especially around the vanity, a cooler temperature (3000K-4000K) can be ideal for tasks like grooming and applying makeup.

BATHROOM TILE:

Shower Tile Flooring: When choosing tile for your shower floor, opt for tiles on a mesh sheet with individual pieces 2" or smaller. This ensures plenty of grout lines, improving traction and reducing the risk of slipping. For younger children and the elderly, a smaller 1" size is recommended for even better safety. Additionally, a matte finish is a great option to further minimize slipping hazards.

Main Bathroom Floor Tile: Almost any tile size can work for bathroom floors, but for added safety, it's best to choose a matte finish to minimize slipping. The texture of a matte tile provides better grip, making it a great option for high-traffic areas and wet environments like the bathroom.

Natural Stone:

Natural stone will have variations and may look different from the sample due to its natural origins.

Ceramic and Porcelain:

These tiles have less variation but can still differ in color between boxes.

Dry Run Your Tile:

  • Ensure your tile installer understands the layout.

  • Review bold patterns or specific placements, like centering on plumbing.

  • Select preferred pieces if there are natural variations and overorder slightly more so you have more pieces to choose from.

  • Decide on the orientation and centering of floor tiles, especially around vanities or bathtubs. Typically centering on a key focal point of the room, either the vanity or the soaking tub gives the layout a sense of balance.

  • Order samples so you can view them in your home with your spaces lighting.

  • Ask your installer to mix up the boxes and tile pieces to ensure any tile variations are spread out evenly.

  • The smaller the grout line the less grout to clean! It also allows the tile to be the center of the show.
